Report

Thanks to all those who attended the May MBFG monthly social meeting on Wednesday, another great turnout.

It was great to welcome another couple of new members to the Group and to welcome back some who have been sorely missed.

A big thanks to all those who bought raffle tickets for the Wynnum Marine sponsored $150 gift voucher, which this month was won by Kerrod. As voted by the group, all proceeds from the raffle will be donated to the Marine Rescue NSW go-fund-me in honour of those brave volunteers who earlier this week sadly lost their lives trying to save others. And I know we all reflected on this tragic loss and their bereaved families during the group’s 1-minute silence.

The Captain’s report included details of the proposed return of the MBTBC Fishing Classic, to be held 20 - 23 August; anyone keen to help on the steering committee for this please see Terry or Derek who can help you make contact with the Club’s organising team.

Conrad detailed the current competition status, and whilst it is still early in the season a certain someone is starting to gain a healthy lead in the Inshore competition. Offshore has been a bit quite due to poor weather, but let’s hope the current leader can retain his award winning position. Just a reminder to get those catches recorded - You’ve Got To Be In It To Win It.

Due to poor weather the Recent Events report was a bit light on fishing trips, but the first Sunday Social earlier this month proved a massive hit, so we’ll be planning a few more similar events for those pesky windy days.

It was great to hear from our very own members, sharing their experience and knowledge of a wide range of interesting topics:

  • Coastal bar crossings;

  • Experiences from fishing the NT with Dundee Beach Charters;

  • How to catch dollies off Moreton;

  • How to catch Jacks down the Goldie, and

  • How to catch squid and cuttlefish in the bay

I know we all learnt a great deal from those presenting, and the rumours are growing louder of a MBFG organised trip up to Darwin / Dundee Beach next year to experience some of the great fishing Ian spoke of.

Please watch the MBFG website for some upcoming Blogs covering the above talks where we’ll share those presentations, and the valuable knowledge, to a wider audience.

Finally, a reminder that the next MBFG overnight trip is to Tippler on South Straddie - see the website What’s On page for details - that’s going to be another cracker…
