The Committee
The committee's goal is to foster a welcoming, family‑friendly community centred on safe, sustainable fishing and social activities that deliver enjoyment and learning all members..
Terry Captain Hi everyone — I’m Terry. I took over as Captain of MBFG in January 2024 and I’ve brought a fresh approach focused on community, family, friendship, and sharing knowledge about boating and fishing. I’m passionate about offshore fishing—especially chasing wahoo and marlin—and I love being on the water, whether I’m out to relax or to fish. I skip around on my Boston Whaler 325 Conquest, Lanikai. I’m really looking forward to spending time with both long‑standing and new MBFG members on our trips away and at our monthly meetings.
Derek Vice Captain I’ve been fishing all my life, initially as a youngster alongside my father in the rivers of the UK, and later fishing on the family tinnie in the seas near Portsmouth. One of the main reasons for emigrating to Australia was to live near the sea (and because of the better weather obviously). SEQ and areas inside and offshore from Moreton Island offer some great fishing opportunities and I love them all: bay, offshore, game and more recently deep drop jigging. I own a 6.3m Sailfish aluminium cat with twin 90hp and have been a member of the MBTBC for over 15 years, holding the position of Fishing Group captain a few years back.
Kai Treasurer I've always enjoyed being out on the water and have lived in Brisbane for 20years. I came across the fishing group in February 2021, receiving a welcome email from Derek and have been to most meetings since then. I have found the meetings and fishing trips a valuable source of knowledge and mateship. Look for me out on the water in a blue, 6.3m Quintrex bowrider, with the call sign "True North".
Conrad Competitions Hi — I love being on and in the water. These days I mostly fish Moreton Bay with my son from our Frewza 16ft centre console. I started out as a mackerel specialist, but with plenty of help from the group I’ve learnt to target many of the other species around the bay. I’m keen on family-friendly trips, swapping tips, and having a laugh — always happy to share what I know or learn something new from others.
Phil (Lucky Phil) Secretary I’m Phil, and I have been on the Management Committee for the past 5 years in my current role of Secretary and Minutes. I enjoy most types of fishing. Owning a 4.75m tinnie allows me to fish with my sons for most popular species within Moreton Bay, although I do tend to target snapper and whiting. I am also a keen beach fisherman, and love targeting large tailor and Jew off the beaches of Fraser Island in early Spring. If I have time I try to do a fishing trip to 1770 and another to the Solomon Islands each year, although this year I’m planning my first Swains trip.
