Report

Another great social evening hosted by the M0reton Bay Fishing Group.  We got to hear from our very own experts on how to catch big jewies in the Brissie River and also cracking snapper in the Moreton Bay.

We were also pleased to welcome Cameron Bow, CEO from Sportsman Boats who talked us through all the details of the new Sportsman Reef 19 Centre Console, and was also was kind enough to bring one along straight from the factory for us to view close-up; an awesome, well-designed boat with a big Carolina Flare making for a nice dry ride.

We also welcomed Johnny from Wynnum Marine, who are a fantastic and generous sponsor of MBFG, and once again provided the $150 raffle prize,  which this month was won by Kaptain Konrads.

Some photos from the evening and some rigging tips.  If you didn’t make the evening you’ll have missed some valuable techniques and tricks, but lucky for you both Jason and Derek would be happy to share some of the knowledge for a pint of Guinness.  And for our full members the fishing locations where these big boys hang out has been shared on our MBFG WhatsApp site (we don’t want everyone on the internet to know our secret spots )

And the Official minutes…

There was a total of 53 attendees, including 5 new members. A big warm welcome to Alan, Harry, Tim, Muttley, and Mark.  Vice-Captain Derek informed the group that the next Offshore Attack (Tag-Along Trip) is planned for Sunday 14 June ’26 (weather permitting as always), with probably a 5:30am launch.  Club Captain Terry reminded everyone that the Rainbow Beach Weekend Trip (September 10-13) is approaching fast so time to get everything finalised.

Johnny Milton from Wynnum Marine (major MBFG sponsor) introduced Cameron Bow, CEO of Sportsman Boats Australia who spoke about the history of the company, and the design and features of their 17’ and 19’ centre console fishing/cruising boats. Following the presentation, Cameron had brought along the 19’ which was parked in the MHBC car park.  The group assembled outside and Cameron went around the boat pointing out the various facilities and features.

The pizzas arrived (sponsored by MBFG) and the meeting adjourned for a 20-minute break.

Immediately after the break the raffle was drawn, and the $150 voucher at Wynnum Marine (thanks once again Johnny!) was won by Konrads.   Following the raffle, Jason gave an excellent presentation on how to catch Mulloway (“Jew Fish”) in both the Brisbane River, and in the Clarence River down in Northern NSW near Yamba with many people being surprised just how different the techniques are for the different rivers.

The night’s final presentation was given by Derek who gave a very informative presentation on how to successfully catch Inshore (Bay) Snapper, and a few tips for offshore fishing.  The meeting finished just before 9pm, and a quick reminder that the next MBFG meeting will be on Wednesday 1st July 2026.
